Forbes, names Jay-Z, the richest musician in America Again

Jay-Z is now the richest musician in America, according to an update of Forbes’s annual ranking of celebrity wealth. Appearing behind George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey and Michael Jordan, with a net worth of $900m, the hip-hop mogul saw the biggest dollar gains out of anyone else on the list, Yahoo News reports, quoting The Independent. Thanks to his stakes in various companies, including entertainment giant Roc Nation, his streaming service Tidal, and alcohol companies including Armand de Brignac and D’Ussé, he has overtaken rapper Diddy, who previously held the title. Star Wars creator George Lucas, who sold Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012, has helped boost his own wealth by transitioning the original film trilogy into an empire of merchandise, tie-in games, novels and comic books. After TMZ Sports reported the rapper will join Adam Levine's band on stage, Jem Aswad and Shirley Halperin of Variety reported Jay-Z is attempting to convince Scott not to perform. Aswad and Halperin pointed to Jay-Z's previous criticism of the NFL because former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has not been offered a job since he opted out of his contract following the 2016 season, when he began protesting racial injustice and police violence during the national anthem. This comes after Us Weekly cited a source who said Maroon 5 "is having a lot of trouble finding guests" to join them because "no one wants to associate themselves with the NFL" with Kaepernick still on the sideline. WASHINGTON – Defense Secretary Jim Mattis announced Thursday that he is stepping down, citing disagreements with President Donald Trump ranging from Syria to global alliances and sparking deep anxiety among lawmakers about national security. The announcement of Mattis' departure on Feb. 28 capped a turbulent series of events in which Trump abruptly gave notice Wednesday that 2,000 troops would be withdrawn from Syria, the prospect of a partial government shutdown drew closer and financial markets plunged. In his resignation letter, Mattis, 68, acknowledged his differences with Trump over the need for alliances and bluntly told him that he should choose a different chief for the Defense Department. “Because you have the right to have a se
